What it is
What an AI visibility tool does, and what it costs.
An AI visibility tool tracks how often AI assistants name your brand and who they name instead. RankX AI reports each separately.
What it does
Tracks AI answers, not rankings
RankX AI asks your tracked prompts across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot and records whether you were named, where, how you were described, and which pages were cited.
SEO tools built for Google rankings see none of that, which is why the two run side by side here.
Who it is for
Marketers, agencies and founders
In-house marketers checking whether ChatGPT recommends the brand, agencies reporting per client from separate workspaces, and founders checking what AI says before buyers do.
One account, a workspace per brand, and the same measurement for every one of them.
What it costs
From $49 a month
Plans run from $49 to $599 a month, and every plan sees every surface. A check costs 5 credits per prompt per assistant. The 7-day trial carries 1,000 credits, which is 200 checked answers, and asks for no card.
Starter, at $49, funds 6 full sweeps of its 25 prompts a month with every assistant switched on.
Why this matters now
Generative AI platforms took 9.5 billion visits a month between June 2025 and May 2026, up 70% in a year, and ChatGPT’s share of those visits fell from 76% to 53% as Gemini and Claude grew (Similarweb, July 2026). In the UK, 54% of adults now use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini (Ofcom, April 2026).
What it measures
How does RankX AI measure AI visibility? Never averaged.
AI visibility is the share of tracked answers that name your brand. RankX AI reports Visibility, Position, Sentiment and Citations separately.
Visibility
How often you’re named at all, per assistant and per prompt.
If you’re not named, nothing else matters.
Position
Where you land in the answer. Buyers read top-down, so third isn’t first.
Third is a mention, not a recommendation.
Sentiment
How you’re described, phrase by phrase: the lines that sell you and the ones that lose the sale.
Being named badly costs more than not being named.
Citations
What the assistant read. Usually a review site or a forum, not your page.
Whatever it read is what it believes.
The figures in the pictures are the sample scenario’s.
How RankX AI counts a rate
A rate is a share of the answers RankX AI could actually read. An answer that returns no analysable verdict is recorded as unknown, and unknown is never counted as a miss.
The terms are defined in the glossary: AI mentions, AI citations, AI share of voice and the citation rate.
Where it looks
Your buyers’ assistants, and Google AI Overviews, counted apart.
RankX AI asks the assistants you pick, from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Google AI Overviews is read on your keywords instead.
Prompt checks
Your tracked prompts, asked the way a buyer would ask them, then read for who gets named and in what order. The rates shown are the sample scenario’s.

Rank tracking
Your tracked keywords, searched on Google, then read for whether the AI Overview above the results cites you. How it is tracked is on the AI Overviews page.
- Google AI OverviewsGoogle
Your prompts, your schedule
Every tracked prompt runs on the assistants you choose, as often as you choose: your key question on ChatGPT every night, a secondary one on Perplexity weekly. You only spend credits on the runs you set up.
How RankX AI keeps the two pipelines apart
Gemini and Google AI Overviews are both Google’s, and RankX AI still counts them apart: Gemini is an assistant answering a prompt, while Google AI Overviews is part of Google Search, the summary that appears above the results when someone searches on Google rather than asking an AI.
Every surface above is on every plan, the trial included: plans change how many prompts you track, never which platforms you see. How each answer is collected and classified is published in full on the methodology page.
Google AI Mode, Google’s separate conversational search tab, is a different surface again: RankX AI reads it for AI Shopping product cards, separately from brand prompts. The roster follows where buyers went: ChatGPT’s share of generative AI visits fell from 76% to 53% between June 2025 and May 2026 while Gemini and Claude grew (Similarweb, July 2026). The AI Overview surface earns its own pipeline because a Google rank is no longer a proxy for it: only 38% of AI Overview citations now come from the top ten results, down from 76% in July 2025 (Ahrefs, March 2026).
What you see
Every RankX AI number shows its workings.
Three views of one dataset: your share week by week, what the assistants said, and the pages that tell you what to write.
Share over time
Your share of tracked answers, week by week, against the rivals taking them. A single week is noise; the line is the signal.
The answers themselves
Every tracked run stores an excerpt of what the assistant said, so you can check a number against the text it came from. An excerpt, not the full transcript.
The pages behind them
The sources each assistant read, and who owns them. Usually a directory, a design platform and a forum thread rather than your own site.
Under 1 in 100Ask an assistant the same question twice and the odds it names the same brands in the same order are worse than that. One check measures nothing.
A panel, not a promptRankX AI runs every tracked prompt on the assistants and schedule you set for it, and reports the trend across all of them rather than the last answer.
Unknown, never zeroAn answer that returns no analysable verdict is recorded as unknown. A rate is a share of what RankX AI could actually read, so unknown is never a miss.
Sample data with invented brands.
Where the figures come from
RankX AI does not publish measured visibility claims about companies that never asked, so the brands above are invented. The repeatability figure is measured, from SparkToro and Gumshoe’s study of 2,961 prompt repetitions.
What to look for
What to look for in an AI visibility tool.
The questions to ask any tool before you pay, with RankX AI’s answer beside each. A hedge is an answer too.
| Criterion | What to check | RankX AI |
|---|---|---|
| Which platforms, on which plan | Whether every assistant is on the entry plan, or some sit behind a higher tier or a paid add-on. | ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, plus Google AI Overviews, on every plan, the trial included. Every assistant is switched on or off per website, and each prompt can narrow the list further. |
| How often it checks, and who decides | Whether the vendor fixes the cadence or you set it, and whether one prompt can be re-checked on demand. | A nightly job runs whatever is due. Each prompt has its own cadence, daily, every three days, weekly, fortnightly or monthly, or the website default, and its own list of assistants; the next scheduled check is shown beside it, and any prompt can be re-checked on demand. |
| Whether the method is published | How an answer is collected, how a mention is classified, and what an answer nobody could read counts as. | Published in full on the methodology page. ChatGPT and Gemini are read from the consumer interface, and an answer with no analysable verdict is recorded as unknown, never as a miss. |
| Whether you can read the answers | A visibility score with no text behind it cannot be checked against anything. | Every tracked run stores an excerpt of what the assistant said, beside the metrics it produced. |
| Whether Google AI Overviews is counted apart | An AI Overview appears when someone searches on Google; an assistant answers when someone asks it. They are two surfaces, and a blended figure hides which one moved. | Google AI Overviews is part of Google Search, so RankX AI checks it against your tracked keywords through the rank tracker, in its own pipeline. Google AI Mode, Google's separate conversational search tab, is read only for AI Shopping product cards. |
| What it costs to start | The entry price, what the trial includes, and whether a card is needed before you see your own data. | $49 a month on the entry plan. A 7-day trial with 1,000 credits and no card. |
The same questions, put to other suites
The same questions, put to the suites that bundle AI tracking, are in the head-to-heads with Semrush and Ahrefs, prices checked on the date each page shows. Your Google positions are tracked by a separate feature, described on the Google rankings page.
What changes
When AI leaves you out, RankX AI closes the loop.
Tracking shows which answers you lose and what the assistants read instead. RankX AI turns that into a brief, a draft and a page.
See which prompts you lose
Track the questions your buyers actually ask, and RankX AI tells you which assistants answer them without you.
Read why you were left out
The sources behind each answer are the brief. If an assistant read a directory and a forum thread, that is the page you are missing.
Publish the page that fixes it
Content Studio briefs it, drafts it and publishes it to WordPress, writing the SEO title and meta description through your SEO plugin and reading every field back.
Nothing publishes without your review.
What to track, and what the WordPress push changes
Not sure what to track? RankX AI’s prompt research finds the questions people ask about your market, ranked by an estimate of the demand behind each, so the list you measure is one somebody asks: which prompts are worth tracking.
The WordPress publish writes the title, content, excerpt and slug, then the SEO title and meta description through your SEO plugin, and reads each field back to confirm it landed.
Questions
What people ask about AI visibility tracking.
Direct answers about what RankX AI measures and how.
What is an AI visibility tool?
An AI visibility tool, sometimes sold as an AI monitoring tool, an AI visibility platform, an AI visibility tracker or an LLM visibility tracker, measures how often AI platforms like ChatGPT name a brand in their answers, since assistants answer buyers directly instead of listing links. Generative AI platforms took 9.5 billion visits a month by mid-2026, up 70% in a year (Similarweb). When you compare tools, check which platforms each plan actually includes, how often checks run, and whether the method is published: much of the category gates platforms behind higher tiers. Unlike a traditional SEO tool it tracks answers rather than rankings, so it sits beside your SEO tracking rather than replacing it. RankX AI tracks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot on every plan and publishes its method.
What does AI visibility actually measure?
AI visibility is the share of tracked answers that name your brand. RankX AI asks your tracked prompts across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, reads each answer, and records whether you were named, where you appeared among the brands listed, how you were described, and which pages the assistant cited. Those four are reported separately rather than combined, because a brand can lead on one and be absent from another.
What is a good AI visibility score?
There is no universal good score, because a mention rate depends entirely on which prompts you chose and how many rivals compete for the same answers. Read your brand visibility against your competitors and over time. In SparkToro and Gumshoe's 2,961-run study, the leading brands in a category were named in 55% to 77% of answers even though no two answer lists matched, so a leader in a settled market sits well above half. A brand far below its rivals on the same prompts, like the sample scenario's 2.3% against a leader's 36.2%, is looking at the gap worth closing. RankX AI shows the share for every competitor beside yours, so the benchmark is the market you actually sell into.
How do I check whether ChatGPT names my brand?
Ask ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask, several times over, and count how often your brand appears, because a single answer changes from one run to the next. RankX AI automates that: you add the prompts, or take them from prompt research, and each one is asked on the assistants and schedule you set for it, then recorded for whether you were named, where, and which pages were cited. For a one-off snapshot first, the free AI visibility checker asks ChatGPT and Gemini three buying questions and shows who they name. A free AI readiness audit checks whether your pages can be read at all, which is the usual reason a brand is missing.
How often does RankX AI check?
As often as you set, prompt by prompt. Every prompt follows the website default unless you change it, and you can set it to daily, every three days, weekly, fortnightly or monthly; on the trial the floor is weekly. Each prompt also carries its own list of assistants, so a question that only matters on one or two of them need not be asked of the rest. A check costs 5 credits per prompt per assistant, which is how you control what the tracking spends: fewer assistants or a slower cadence means fewer credits. The next scheduled check is shown beside every prompt, and any prompt can be re-checked whenever you want. Google AI Overview citations come through the rank tracker on its own schedule, against the keywords you track, because an AI Overview appears on a Google search rather than in answer to a prompt.
Does it check the real ChatGPT, or an API stand-in?
For ChatGPT and Gemini, RankX AI reads the answer from the same consumer interface a person uses, which is where the links and citations actually render, with the official interface as a fallback. The other AI models are checked through their official interfaces, because they offer no comparable consumer surface to read. Either way the answer is stored with its verdict, so you can see what was actually said.
AI answers change every time. How is a percentage meaningful?
It is meaningful only as an aggregate, and that is how RankX AI builds it. One independent study of 2,961 prompt repetitions found under a 1-in-100 chance that two runs of the same question return the same brand list, so a single check tells you almost nothing. RankX AI runs a panel of prompts repeatedly across every tracked assistant and reports the trend. When an answer returns no analysable verdict it is recorded as unknown rather than counted as a miss, so the figure is a share of the answers we actually read.
Can I see the answers, or only the score?
You can read them. Every tracked run stores an excerpt of the AI response, in a feed you can scroll through beside the metrics, so a number can always be checked against the text it came from. It is an excerpt rather than the full transcript.
Which AI engines should I track?
Start with the AI search engines your buyers actually use, which for most brands means ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot together, plus Google AI Overviews, which is part of Google Search rather than an assistant: it appears above the results when someone searches on Google. Usage is spreading rather than concentrating: ChatGPT's share of generative AI visits fell from 76% to 53% in the year to May 2026 while Gemini and Claude grew (Similarweb, July 2026). RankX AI tracks visibility across all of them on every plan, so the choice is which prompts to track rather than which engines to pay for.
Does RankX AI track Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode?
Google AI Overviews, yes. An AI Overview is part of Google Search: it appears above the ordinary results when someone searches on Google, not when they ask an AI assistant, so RankX AI tracks it through the rank tracker against your keywords, in its own pipeline, and reports it apart from the assistants. Google AI Mode is a different Google product, a conversational tab inside Google Search, and RankX AI reads it only for AI Shopping, where it checks whether your products appear as cards in ChatGPT Shopping and Google AI Mode answers, separately from the brand prompt run. Every platform on the roster is tracked on every plan; nothing sits behind a tier.
Can an agency track AI visibility for client brands?
Yes. Each client brand gets its own workspace, with its own prompts, competitors, audit and reports, and you switch between them without logging out. Visibility is always reported per brand, never blended across clients, and tracking a second or third brand does not double the bill.
Is AI visibility the same as ranking in Google?
They overlap far less than most people expect. When Ahrefs checked 15,000 questions in 2025, about 80% of the pages AI assistants cited did not rank anywhere in Google's top 100 for the same question, and only 12% ranked in the top ten. An assistant is building an answer rather than ranking a list, which is why an SEO rank tracker cannot see it. RankX AI tracks both surfaces, AI search and Google search, so you can see where they agree and where they do not.
Do I need a separate AI visibility tool if Semrush or Ahrefs has AI tracking?
Not necessarily, and the honest test is arithmetic. Semrush sells AI visibility inside a wider marketing suite and Ahrefs sells it as a second subscription beside the main plan, so if you already pay for either, price the AI half on its own and compare it with what a dedicated AI visibility tool charges for the same platforms, because the SEO tools bundle it in different ways. RankX AI's argument is that AI visibility, Google rank tracking, a site audit and content publishing sit in one subscription from $49 a month, with every assistant on every plan. The Semrush and Ahrefs head-to-heads linked below carry the current prices and the date they were checked.
Can RankX AI guarantee an assistant will recommend me?
No, and be careful of anyone who says otherwise. Nobody controls what an assistant says about a brand. What you can control is whether the pages it reads are accurate, structured and yours, which is what the citation tracking, the audit and the content tools are for.
What does the free trial include for AI visibility?
The 7-day trial carries 1,000 credits, and a visibility check costs 5 credits per prompt per assistant, so the trial funds 200 checked answers to spread across your prompts, the assistants and the other tools. All six assistants are available from the first day, with no card required, and you choose which of them each prompt is asked of.
How much does AI visibility tracking cost?
Plans run from $49 to $599 a month, and the difference between them is how many prompts, keywords and websites you track, never which platforms you see. A check costs 5 credits per prompt per assistant, so a full sweep of Starter's 25 prompts across every assistant costs 750 credits, and its 5,000 monthly credits fund 6 such sweeps alongside the other tools. Fewer assistants on a prompt, or a slower cadence, spends less. Agencies have their own track, priced per client workspace. Every plan and price is on the pricing page in full.
