The AI Visibility Checker shows if ChatGPT and Gemini name you.
RankX AI reads your homepage, asks ChatGPT and Gemini three questions a buyer in your market would ask, and shows whether either assistant names your business, who it names instead, and which sites it read.
What this checks
Six answers, read the way a buyer would read them.
The AI Visibility Checker asks three buying questions on each of two assistants and reads every answer for three facts: whether your business was named, who was named instead, and which sites were cited.
Questions that never name you
The AI Visibility Checker writes its questions from what your homepage says you sell and where, then removes any question that contains your business name or domain. A mention in answer to “is Acme any good” proves nothing; a mention in answer to “who should I hire for this” is the one a buyer who has never heard of you would see.
The answers buyers actually get
Each answer comes from the ChatGPT or Gemini consumer app, the one people use, not from a developer API. That matters because the consumer apps search the web and cite what they read, and those sources are half of what the report shows.
Named, named instead, and cited
For every answer the report shows whether your business was named, the other businesses the assistant recommended, and the sites it cited. An answer the checker could not read is shown as exactly that and never counted as a “no”, so the totals only ever describe answers that exist.
Why it is built this way
What RankX AI measured before building a free AI visibility check.
Three of the AI Visibility Checker's design choices come from RankX AI's own measurements rather than from convention.
API answers had no sources
When RankX AI moved its product's ChatGPT and Gemini checks from the developer APIs to the consumer apps in August 2026, the share of answers carrying their cited sources went from none to every ChatGPT answer and 79% of Gemini answers. A visibility check built on the API could tell you whether you were named and never why.
Being known is not being suggested
On the AI Visibility Checker's first live run, on 27 September 2026 against the site of a UK AI automation agency, neither ChatGPT nor Gemini named the business in any of six buying answers, while eight other businesses were named. A business can be easy to find by name and still be missing from the answer a new buyer gets.
One answer is a reading, not a rank
Assistants answer the same question differently between askings, so RankX AI's product asks each tracked question on a schedule and reads the trend. The AI Visibility Checker gives you one honest reading and says so on the report, which is why every figure in it states how many answers it counts.
Reading the result
Named or not, the next move is in the list of cited sites.
Three results cover almost every AI Visibility Checker report, and each has a concrete follow-up.
Named: find out why, and keep it
Look at the sites cited in the answers that named you. Those pages are carrying your visibility, so keep your listing on them current, and track the same questions over time so a drop shows up before a buyer notices it.
Named instead: the list is your brief
The businesses named instead of you, and the sites that mentioned them, show who the assistants trust in your market. Earning a mention on the cited directories, review sites and articles is the most direct route into the next answer.
Not named anywhere: check the basics
Make sure the assistants can reach your site at all with the AI Crawler Access Checker, and that your homepage says plainly what you sell and where. The AI Readiness Score grades that in one run.
How AI visibility differs from Google visibility
AI visibility is whether an assistant suggests your business when somebody asks it for help, and it is built from different sources than a Google ranking. ChatGPT and Gemini search the web, read a handful of pages and write one answer, so a business can rank well on Google and still be absent from the answer. Google's own AI answer is measured by the AI Overview Checker, and tracking your own buyer questions across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok on a schedule is what RankX AI visibility tracking does. How the product counts a mention is set out on the methodology page.
Keep going
The answer is one half; whether AI can read you is the other.
Whether AI systems can reach and read your site decides whether any of them can recommend it. The other free checks cover that side.
Questions
What people ask about AI visibility.
What the check asks, where the answers come from, and what to do with a result.
What does the AI Visibility Checker actually test?
The AI Visibility Checker reads your homepage to learn what the business sells, writes three questions a buyer would ask when looking for that kind of business, and asks each one on ChatGPT and on Gemini. For each of the six answers it reports whether your business was named, which businesses were named instead, and which websites the assistant cited as its sources.
Why do the questions never mention my business by name?
Because a question that names the business makes a mention certain and tells you nothing. A buyer who already knows your name can find you; the question that matters is whether an assistant suggests you to someone who does not. The AI Visibility Checker drops any generated question that contains your business name or your domain, and it needs at least two clean questions to run.
Where do the answers come from?
From the ChatGPT and Gemini consumer apps, the ones buyers use, rather than from the developer APIs. The difference is large: when RankX AI moved its own product checks from the APIs to the consumer apps in August 2026, the share of answers that carried their cited sources went from none to all of them on ChatGPT and 79% on Gemini. The sources are half of what this checker shows, so an API answer would have left that half empty.
Why only ChatGPT and Gemini?
ChatGPT and Gemini are the two assistants whose consumer answers the free check can read along with their sources. The RankX AI product itself asks the same kind of question on ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok, on a schedule, so a free check covers two of the assistants a tracked project covers.
Why would ChatGPT name my business and Gemini not?
Because ChatGPT and Gemini search the web differently, read different sources and weigh them differently. The cited sites in the report show this directly: the two assistants often lean on different directories, review sites and articles for the same question. A business named by one and missing from the other is usually present on the sources the first reads and absent from the sources the second reads.
What does it mean if no assistant named my business?
It means that on this check, for these three questions, neither ChatGPT nor Gemini suggested your business. Assistants answer the same question differently on different days and for different people, so one reading is a snapshot rather than a verdict. It is still worth acting on: the businesses named instead and the sites cited show who the assistants currently trust for your market.
What does "could not be read" mean on an answer?
It means RankX AI did not get a usable answer for that question on that assistant, because the assistant did not respond in time or its answer could not be analysed. That answer counts neither way. The AI Visibility Checker reports "named in 1 of the 2 answers we could read" rather than "1 of 3", because a failure on our side is not evidence about your business.
How do I get ChatGPT and Gemini to name my business?
Start with the cited sites in your report. Assistants recommend businesses the sources they read already mention, so a listing, a review or an article on those sites is the most direct route into an answer. Then make sure the assistants can read your own site at all, which the AI Crawler Access Checker tests, and that your homepage says plainly what you sell and where, which is what the checker itself had to work out.
Which markets can I check?
The AI Visibility Checker runs in twelve markets: the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and India. The market decides where the questions are asked from and the language they are written in, and the list is fixed, which is one of the controls on what each free check costs.
Is the AI Visibility Checker free, and why does it ask for my email?
It is free for three reports per email address, with no account. Each check costs RankX AI real money, six live answers from the consumer apps and the analysis of each, so the checker verifies your address before it runs and emails you the link to your report. Results are reused for 24 hours for the same website and market, fair-use limits apply per visitor, and a daily ceiling means that if the tool is hammered it pauses rather than running up a bill.
How is this different from the AI Overview Checker?
The AI Overview Checker looks at Google search: whether one keyword triggers an AI Overview and which pages it cites. The AI Visibility Checker looks at the assistants people ask directly, ChatGPT and Gemini, and whether they recommend your business when a buyer describes what they need. The two are built from different sources, so doing well in one does not predict the other.
How long is my report kept?
Your report stays at its link for twelve months, and anyone you share the link with sees the same page. The answers are fixed at the time of the check; to see whether anything has changed, run the check again or track the questions in the RankX AI product, which keeps every answer so a change shows up as a trend.
